AM Beat Profiled on WebWorkerDaily and New York Times
I was recently profiled on Web Worker Daily, one of the best blogs out there for anyone who works in the web industry, and the story was syndicated on the New York Times website. The profile was part of Web Worker Daily’s “Reader Profile” series where they ask certain readers who they are, what they do, what tech they use, and what their favorite web working tip is.
You can read the full article here, but I have pasted a short except below.
What’s a typical day like for you?
I have class for about five hours every day and teach an introduction to entrepreneurship course to a class of about 60-70 students once a week. Aside from my work at Berkeley, I spend two to three hours each day working on ZapPrep, talking with potential customers, training our tutors and working with clients. I also spend an hour a day blogging at AM Beat and monitoring/discussing that latest webmaster/entrepreneurship news posted by members at AM Beat Wire, my social bookmarking web site targeted specifically at webmasters and entrepreneurs.
What gear and software do you use, and why?
I have an HP DV4-2045dx laptop, which was pretty affordable at under $600 and runs perfectly. I also have an Asus Eee PC netbook for when I’m traveling. Software-wise, I useGoogle Docs heavily to share documents with tutors from across the U.S., and Skype to conduct online tutoring sessions.
As far as mobile technology is concerned, I have an LG Voyager on Verizon, which is good for texting and calls but has limited web browsing capabilities. That’s not really an issue, however, as I almost always have my laptop or netbook nearby.
