Cisco Telepresensce: The Future of Conferencing

September 3rd, 2009 in News
Cisco

I had the chance to head over to Cisco’s offices in Bangalore today to learn more about the future of the company and test out their new Cisco Telepresensce enterprise solution. The Cisco Telepresensce Solution is one of the most amazing applications of new business technology I have seen. It is the most realistic and highest quality video conferencing software in the world.

The solution really makes it seem as if you are in the same room as the people you are video conferencing with. The product requires two nearly identical rooms (say one in a firm’s San Francisco offices and one in their Bangalore offices) which feature half a conference table, three large 65” HD television screens, and seating for six. When telepresensce is turned on, the other part can bee seen on the three screens and a surround sound speaker system makes it truly feel like you are in the same room as the people you are talking with, all sitting around the same boardroom table.

The solution is expensive ($50,000+) and is aimed at very large businesses; however, the exciting news is that the company plans to roll out a commercial version featuring a 37” screen aimed at personal use. Now this solution is currently around $10,000, but it is all very new technology and as it is developed, the price should drop down to more affordable levels (similar as today’s plasma and LCD screens).

The video below does a great job of demonstrating the product:
