Getting Rid of Compulsive Habits

Obsessive compulsive habits, we all have them and they waste all our time. From constantly checking e-mails to updating your Facebook status to checking sales figures and web metrics repeatedly, there are certain little tasks that we all do excessively that eat up huge chunks of our time.

Here are a few of my compulsive habits: constantly checking my e-mail account, logging in to Facebook and other social networking websites, and checking statistics from sales figures to visitor and page view counts here at AM Beat.

Breaking these habits is tough and definitely takes time, persistence, and determination. However, the first and most important step in breaking these habits is by identifying them. Take some time today to find out what you do way too many times a day and try to make an active effort to try and break these habits.

One of the most common compulsive behaviors among entrepreneurs? Constantly checking their e-mail accounts. Entrepreneur and best selling author Timothy Ferriss has written a great deal on the subject of managing e-mail. You can read his words of wisdom here.

One thing that really helped me was to turn off the automatic email notification thingy. Now I check the emails when I will, not when my computer tells me I have to, excuse me now, haven’t checked my adsense account in the last 5min ;-) SY
