The Power of Internal Communication

June 25th, 2009 in Entrepreneurship

In any start-up business, coordination from the entire team is crucial to success. It can be hard to have everyone stay in touch, especially in this new age of “remote” businesses where people work from home and there is not a central office where everyone converges.

There are a number of inexpensive ways to coordinate projects. Skype is great for personal video calls and sharing data and information. AIM is also a convenient way to communicate instantly. We also use E-Mail, Facebook, and Twitter to stay in touch.

However, a new technique I have found that has been rather effective with internal communication is setting up our own microblogging network. All employees have an account and can post short messages (like Twitter) that everyone in the company can see and reply too, facilitating communication and collaboration.

I use Wordpress and their new P2 theme to do this. Above is a picture of how the theme looks and here is a video describing all the features and how to set one up for your business.

It is really a great way to coordinate an entire team.

Thats a great idea! My current website is operated by 3 people. One of them is in minnesota and me and my brother live in the same house for them summer. We communicate through email, skype, texts, phoncalls, and post important material on google docs.

Thanks for the help. I will see how my partners feel about using this.
